Sunshine Stars book semi ticket, target Gold Cup

Nationwide League One side, FC Ebedei, were sent home from the Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament as three first half goals from Sunshine Stars earned them a semi-final spot in the tourney.

As the first half got to its seventeen minute, Sunshine Stars Tosin Olubobola, became the second player to score a brace in the pre-season, after he scored his team’s second goal shooting the ball pass FC Ebedei goalkeeper Akinsola Akinsehinwa.

Olubobola then completed his brace to give the Owena Waves a three goal cushion as he beat his marker to shoot the ball to the bottom right corner of Ebedie’s goal.

A delighted Kayode Julius, Chief Coach Sunshine Stars while speaking with Gold Cup Media noted: “We took part in the Gold Cup Tourney with a view of giving some invited players some test games.

“And this has paid off as we now know the quality of each an every player.

“We’ve have used three different squads for the games we played, as the experienced ones were used in the game against Lobi Stars, the ones on trials locked horns with MFM FC while a mix of our academy lads and some who were recommended to us against FC Ebedei.

“At the end, the team got 7points from nine. This is good omen for us. We’ll be going into closed camping as only the best will be selected to be part of the squad.”

“Bringing the Gold Cup Tourney to Akure from Ado Ekiti has been a blessing in disguise for the Owena Waves.

“We won the maiden edition of the tourney and ended the season 5th on the log of the Nigeria Professional Football League as rookies.

“Now that we are hosting it, our target is to win it as it would in the long run boost the morale of the players as they prepare themselves for the new season.”

Sunshine Stars who have 7points will square up against 9points Cynosure FC to determine who leads Group A.
