Chukwu Celebrates Rangers’ 1-1 Draw In Tunisia

Date:

Ex-national team captain and coach, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu is celebrating what he called a heroic performance on Wednesday by his former club, Rangers International of Enugu, who pulled off a 1-1 draw away to CS Sfaxien of Tunisia in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Chukwu, who is now technical director of The Flying Antelopes, stated gleefully that Rangers put up a gallant fight in the encounter, which keeps them top of their group table, but charged them not to relax.

‘CC’ stated during a radio programme monitored by footballlive.ng that the Coal City side still have a long way to go before they qualify for the group into the knock out stage, and stressed that they must not rest on their oars until they reach the final and carry the cup at stake.

He added that Rangers got their pound of flesh back on the same club that sent them packing from the same competition in 2013, after they won a protest over the Enugu side’s use of Emmanuel Daniel in goal.

With the surge achieved one step on Wednesday, Chukwu said Rangers must do better when they tango another Tunisian side, Etoile du Sahel in their third group game on February 24 at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

The veteran tactician, who was once head coach of Kenya’s national team, Harambee Stars, added that Rangers have to win their remaining group matches because three teams are still in the race for two slots.

Chukwu added: ”We are all happy that the team was able to pull a draw and not losing. It is a good outing.

”The group is still open so we are not going to give up or start neglecting other teams in the group because we pull a draw against Sfaxien.

”Rangers (must) prepare for every match as it comes, because all the teams stand the chance of making it beyond the group stages.

”Our aim is to be the champions of each tournament and this is just the beginning because we still have a lot of matches to play.”
