Nigeria’s Head Coach Gernot Rohr said his Eagles team were unfortunate in Sunday’s 2-1 AFCON 2019 semi-final defeat to Algeria.

Rohr, speaking in the post-match press conference noted that the Super Eagles were undone by concluding that the game will drag beyond the regulation time; only to concede a late free kick on the edge of the box.

“Unfortunately we conceded the goal towards the last minute, I think my players wanted to go to extra time believing that perhaps Algeria will be tired and we could win this game at the end of extra time.

“It was a wonderful match, we lost it and we are not happy. Congratulations to the Algeria players. They were the better team in the first half,” Rohr recounted.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will now settle for a third place playoff against Tunisia.
