When Jay-Jay Okocha argued he’d worth as much as £150 million in valuation in today’s market, apparently he wasn’t joking about it.

The outrageously fees top clubs have spent on players acquisitions or the valuations of the top performers is unprecedented, and Okocha believes as one of Football’s top players in his era, the market would have rated just as highly.

Now 49-year-old, he still commands the respect of a Super star, and the former Nigerian international, who also played for Fenerbahçe, Paris Saint-Germain and Bolton said paying over a £100 million for a defensive midfielder means an attacker or creative player like him would have commanded more.

“Of course I’d toot my own horn,” Okocha said on Brila FM’s morning show, “No Holds Barred”.

“At my peak I smashed the French and Turkish transfer records. If I wasn’t worth £150 million I wouldn’t have been any less than £120 million.

“That would have been a fair value at my peak as a Player.”

In the 1996-97 season he joined Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahçe for a then record of €3.5 million.

Two seasons later he moved to the Ligue 1; joining Paris Saint-Germain, for a then French record fee of €12.4 million.
