WAFCON 2022: Nigeria through to QFs where Cameroon Awaits

Nigeria will go on to face Cameroon in the quarter-final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after finishing second behind South Africa in the group stages.

A 4-0 win against Burundi, Sunday, in the final group stage match at the Stade Prince Moulay Al Hassan.
Rasheedat Ajibade opened scoring from the penalty spot before and Peace Efih and Uchenna Kanu added to the tally to build a 3-0 lead for the holders.
The second half produced one more – from Kanu – as Nigeria wrapped the first round of the WAFCON 2022 with back to back wins after the opening day defeat to South Africa.
In the quarter-final bracket, the Super Falcons will face Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses of in a repeat of the WAFCON 2016 final.
Cameroon also finished as runner-up, the Central African nation are yet to lose a game in the tournament but only finished with five points, two less than eventual group winners, Zambia.
The quarter-final of the tournament gets underway on July 13 between hosts Morocco and debutants Botswana.
Nigeria and Cameroon will clash on July 14 at the Stade Mohammed V. Casablanca and it is the first time the Falcons are playing away from Rabat in the competition.
