Villarreal bounced back from the last European night defeat – the UEFA Champions League elimination – to cruise past Hadjuk Split in the Europa Conference League.
In a game that pitched Samuel Chukwueze and Chidozie Awaziem at the Ciutat de València on Thursday night.
Chukwueze was one of the bigger performers, contributing an assist as the hosts raced to an unassailable lead in the first half.
Luis Morales scored a brace (14′, 36′), an own goal from Marko Livaja (19′) and Gerard Moreno’s stoppage time goal assisted by Chukwueze.
On the opposition side, Awaziem was deployed in midfield and picked up a yellow card for all his troubles.
However, his team caught an L, while the Yellow Submarines got their bid for another European title off to a comfortable start.
The second-leg of the UECL game will hold in a week at the Stadion Poljud in Split.
