Victor Osimhen Explains Reason For Penalty Snub

Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen says he won’t depend on penalties to score goals.

Osimhen found the back of the net twice in Napoli’s 3-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt to take his goal tally to 23 overall for the season.

He could have completed a hat-trick against Frankfurt after Napoli were awarded a penalty. It would have been his first career hat-trick in the competition, but the team’s designated penalty taker, Piotr Zielinski stepped up and converted for the third goal of night.

Speaking to reporters after the game, man-of-the-match Osimhen explained his reason for not stepping up to take the penalty.

“Zielinski asked if he could take the penalty and I said no problem. It doesn’t matter who scores as long as the team achieves success,” he told reporters.

“It’s the most important thing. I know my goals will come with or without penalties.”
