Former Nigeria International, Victor Ikpeba has tipped his country man, Victor Osimhen to defeat Senegal’s Sadio Mane to the African Player of the Year title.
Rave reviews continue to pour in for Osimhen, who has cut a talismanic figure for his club, Napoli, with impressive displays.
He has scored 18 goals in 19 appearances in the Serie A this season and his prolific form has earned him the tag as favorite for the best Men’s Player from the Continent.
Victor Ikpeba noted that the Forward is in better form than his biggest competition for the award so far this season.
“Osimhen doesn’t need to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be crowned the African Footballer of the Year for 2023,” the former Dortmund and AS Monaco Forward said on his MNF show.
“If Napoli wins the Serie A and they get to the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League, like the semi-finals or the final, he can be the African Footballer of the Year.
He added, “Osimhen’s rivals for the award; the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, are really struggling at the moment.”
