Samuel Chukwueze was a second half substitute at the Allianz Stadium in Turin where Villarreal eliminated Juventus in one of the biggest upsets in UEFA Champions League football.
Chukwueze, introduced on 64 minutes, was one of the catalysts for the Yellow Submarine, who outlasted the Old Lady 3-0 with all goals scored after the 70th minute.
The first-leg of the R16 tie had ended 1-1 at the Estadio de la Ceramica and the odds favored the hosts to punch the ticket into the next, but Unai Emery obviously didn’t get the memo.
Emery made three tactical changes in the second half – Francis Coquelin, Chukwueze and Gerard Moreno – and it turned the game completely in the favor of Villarreal.
The Yellow Submarines scored two from the spot Coquelin won the first spot kick which was converted by Moreno.
Pau Torres then finished a fine effort from Serge Aurier’s flicked header, before Arnaut Danjuma finished off the contest with another spot kick.
Draw for the last 8 of the UEFA Champions League will be held on Friday.
