U23 AFCON: Olympic Eagles triumph in Ibadan

Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles have secured qualification to the final qualifying round of the Africa U23 Cup of Nations with a 3-1 aggregate win over Tanzania.

In the second-leg at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Saturday, the Eagles were made to wait, but eventually, two second half goals sealed their progress.

Ogunniyi Oluwatimilehin broke the deadlock in the 59th minute to hand Nigeria a 2-1 aggregate lead – the first leg ended 1-1 in Dar es Salaam.

In the 67th minute, captain of the side, Success Makanjuola added to his tally in the tie and effectively killed off the contest as Salisu Yusuf and his men march on.

Meanwhile, the team have also earned themselves One million Naira from Nigeria’s senior men team winger, Ahmed Musa who promised the Olympic Eagles five hundred thousand naira for every goal scored in the game.

Nigeria will next face Uganda or Guinea for a place at the U23 AFCON.
