Nigeria U23 MNT, the Olympic Eagles, failed to score when the battled Guinea in their Nations Cup Qualifiers on Wednesday.

In what was an uninspired display at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, Salisu Yusuf’s U23 Eagles failed to take full advantage of playing at home in the first leg of the tie.

Both sides failed to conjure meaningful chances throughout the match, although Nigeria came the closest to scoring, when a ball struck the woodwork.

Nigeria had a shout for a penalty when a Guinean defender seemed to have handled the ball in the box, but the Referee would have none of it.

The Nigerian team was reduced to 10 men when, Christopher Nwaeze made an overzealous tackle and got sent off in the 89th minute, his second booking.

Nigeria will have to do the hard work in the second-leg, in Morocco, next Tuesday.

Winner of the tie qualifies for the CAF U23 AFCON, and gets a chance to fight for a ticket to the Olympic Games in Paris next year.
