U20 WAFU B: Amoo identifies Nigeria’s lapses against Aggressive Burkina Faso

Nigeria threw away the lead twice in their final U20 WAFU B championship Group B game against Burkina Faso to settle for a 2-2 draw on Wednesday.

The Nigerian team scored in each half; an own goal in the first half and Ibrahim Yahaya’s second half penalty.
However, both were cancelled out by the Young Etalons, first from the penalty spot and their life line goal from a collapse of the Eagles defence.
Flying Eagles assistant Coach, Fatai Amoo admitted the team did not defend properly and lost focus in the later stages of the game.
Amoo also suggested Burkina Faso played aggressively because they needed something from the game to stand a chance of going through to the next round.
‘We played against and difficult team Yesterday, the obviously know the game might give them an outside chance – of qualifying – and I think the Chief Coach (Ladan Bosso) will talk about those things, what needs to be done – now for us.
‘You know football, You have to defend well, it’s a 90 minutes game if it’s 90 minutes and some more you have to always make sure you do the needful and rightful,’ Amoo said in his assessment of team’s performance.
Meanwhile Nigeria have advanced to the semi-final but will wait for the outcome of Burkina Faso’s game against Ghana to determine who finishes top of the group.
