Former NFF Technical Committee member, Mutiu Adepoju says “corruption” in African football facilitates age cheating on the continent.
Senegalese news outlet ‘wiwsport’, credited former Egypt national team coach Ehab Galal, with a quote that accused Nigeria and Senegal of presenting over-aged players at the 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
In the report, Galal singled out LB Solomon Agbalaka and Senegal’s goalkeeper Landing Badji as players who are over the age of eligibility for the competition.
However, Mutiu Adepoju slammed the Egyptian for the profiling of specific teams, but insists age cheating is a Continent wide crisis.
“It’s a problem of the system right from the beginning,” Adepoju told FL. “Talking about the Egyptian that protested, how did he know? Was he there when the guy was born?”
“Well, the issue now is how to combat all this. We have to be truthful with ourselves and the system in Nigeria.
“The government has to work, so as to make it difficult for people to cheat the system, falsifying their age.”
