Nigeria ran riot against New Zealand, defeating the Young Ferns 4-0 in the second group game at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, on Friday.

The victory over New Zealand means the Flamingos now have their own destiny in their hands with a place in the second round all up for grabs.

The team had lost their opening game 2-1 against Germany and head coach Bankole Olowookere couldn’t hide his excitement as he praised his side for showing great determination and character to put that loss behind them.

“Even when we tried to qualify for the World Cup and the African Cup of Nations, these are things that happen, every time we always remember that this are young girls coming up, it’s part of development.

” You will always see this kind of thing at age grade level; they will miss some chances but what is more important is that they can create chances.”

Coach Olowookere also said that they will approach the game against Chile as they have done in the set of games played.

“The girls need to be more careful as any mistake means we are out of the tournament. However we’ll approach the game with focus and determination.”

Next game for Nigeria is on Monday, the e team will face Chile, who were battered 6-0 by Germany.

A draw will be enough to seal qualification to the knockout phase, as Nigeria have a superior goal difference.
