U17WWC: Flamingos Run Riot Against New Zealand

In a strong response to their opening day defeat to Germany, Nigeria’s Women’s Under 17 NT, the Flamingos, went all out against New Zealand as they put 4 past their foes in the second group game on Friday.

All four goals for the Flamingos came in some spectacular fashion, worthy of goal of the tournament awards.

First, it was Amina Bello who opened scoring in the 16th minute of the game before Miracle Usani doubled her tally in the tournament, she extended Nigeria’s advantage in the 34th minute to make sure they went into the break with a two goal cushion.

Taiwo Afolabi opened scoring in the second half with a stunning strike in the 75th minute and Etim Edidiong wrapped things up for the Nigerian ladies in the 90th minute.

Striker Ajakaye Opeyemi, who was the team’s highest goal scorer during the qualifying series, was a live wire throughout the game, and was voted Woman of the match.

For their final group match, the Flamingos will line up against Chile on Monday, the South Americans lost 6-0 to Germany in the second round of matches played..
