Ibrahim Sa’id became the first Nigerian to score a hat-trick at the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup tournament, the last one notched by Victor Osimhen, in Chile back in 2015.
On Tuesday, Sa’id became the sixth Nigerian to hit the back of the net three times in an U17 World Cup match; more than any other nation in the tournament.
He joined the likes of Philip Osundu (1987), Nwankwo Kanu (1993), Femi Opabunmi (2001), Kelechi Iheanacho (2013) and Victor Osimhen (2015).
“I just want to make my country proud of the team,” the midfielder told FIFA.com after the match helping Nigeria thrash Ecuador.
One more goal would have seen him equal the highest number of goals scored in a single game, a record held jointly by Kelechi Iheanacho.
