A top fan of Arsenal FC and an Indian actress Esha Gupta has been called out after sharing racist remarks aimed at Alex Iwobi on Instagram, describing the Nigerian as a gorilla.
The 33-year-old Esha Gupta posted a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between herself and another person on Instagram after the Gunners’ FA Cup defeat by Manchester United. She has 3.4million on Instagram and 412,000 on Twitter.
This did not go down well with some fans, which slammed her for her “ignorance” and called her out for being racist despite having claimed she herself has been a victim in the past. After the backlash, Esha took to twitter to apologize.
Gupta wrote, “Guys I’m sorry you thought it was racist, was bad on my part being a sports lover. Wallah never meant it sorry guys forgive the stupidity.”
“Well, it was my fault. So gotta own up to my s***…sorry. It was us discussing our frustration during the game.
“Laughed over a spur of the moment, which was the games result guys. Been a victim of racism myself before. But this is not something I’m proud of. It was a fault. Sorry guys.
Fans were quick to condemn Gupta on social media as she received major backlash for her post.
@keiron85tweeted her, “your response is embarrassing! You state on one hand that you’ve suffered racism yet, on the other hand, you have no idea that you’ve made a racial slur!
‘Your ignorance and arrogance of this whole situation are beyond words! Please remove goners from your profile! You’re (sic) not part of the club/family.’
Meanwhile, @FootballDadUK added;
“Do us all a favor and never step foot at arsenal and take the word goner out your bio as you definitely ain’t (sic) one of us”
