TSG Hoffenheim stops Akpoguma from joining Super Eagles for WCQ, announce He tested Positive for COVID-19

German Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have confirmed that their player Kevin Akpoguma will not be joining the Nigeria national team for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September as he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in isolation.

Akpoguma was among Super Eagles manger, Gernot Rohr’s invited players for the matches against Liberia and Cape Verde next month, but will now have to make do without the RB.
A statement on the club’s website, published on Monday read:
Kevin Akpoguma tested positive for Corona despite being fully vaccinated. He will not make the trip to the Nigerian national team and instead went into quarantine at home. Kevin Akpoguma is symptom free and is fine. In addition, all present players and members of the coaching and functional team were tested. All test results were negative.
Nigeria is scheduled to face Liberia on September 3, in Lagos. It’ll be the first group C match in the second round of the CAF zone for the Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
A second game between Cape Verde and Nigeria will hold September 7.
