Sergio Rico, the goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain, was taken to the hospital on Sunday and is now “fighting to recover” following a “serious” mishap in which he apparently had an apparent brain injury after being kicked by a horse.

Rico, 29, was injured in his native Spain just a day after the French club secured a record 11th title.

 

 

He fell to the ground and was kicked by a horse close to his head, and was immediately flown to a local hospitals, according to local media.

According to sources and a statement from his family, the Goalkeeper had been him permission to travel to Spain on a pilgrimage when the disaster happened.

He traveled in the company of Family members to a Mass when the accident occurred and now they are “awaiting medical results” and will give an update on his status “as soon as feasible.

Sergio Rico’s accident was made known to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, and the club is reportedly keeping in touch with his loved ones.

After a year on loan with team, Rico signed with PSG in 2020.

In 2016, he appeared for the Spanish national team while still playing for Sevilla.

On the night of the 2023 Europa League final against AS Roma, Sevilla players payed tribute to the their former teammate before kick off.
