Following their exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Luis Enrique and the Spanish Football Federation have mutually agreed to part ways.
However while Enrique’s exit had been long predicted, it is now official and was announced by the RFEF in a statement released on Thursday.
The Statement reads:
“The RFEF energetically wishes Luis Enrique and his team the best of luck in their future professional projects.”
“The coach earns the love and admiration of his collaborators in the national team and of the entire Federation, which will always be his home.”
Luis Enrique was Appointed as the head coach of the Spanish National team in July 2018 and Guided the team to the semi-finals of the 2020 Euros.
But in Qatar, Spain failed to live up to expectations despite turning up in style against Costa Rica; beating the Central Americans 7-nil in what would be their only win at the tournament.
They were eliminated by Morocco in the round of 16, 3-0 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes.
Meanwhile, Spain U21 coach Luis de la Fuente has been announced as Enrique’s successor.
The Portuguese FA has denied rumours that Cristiano Ronaldo threatened to quit the National team following an alleged burst up with Manager, Fernando Santos after finding out he was benched for Goncalo Ramos against Switzerland.
