Bayelsa United technical adviser, Diepreye Teibowei has identified some of the problems the team faced in what was an underwhelming league campaign in the just concluded season.
Teibowei’s team ended the league season 7th in the Group B table as they endured a difficult start to the group phase of the season, but Bayelsa United were able to pick themselves up before the end of the campaign and escaped relegation.
“In Bayelsa United we had lots of issues at the beginning of the season and they were demoralizing and it affected the performance.
“Besides that we also had a considerable new team with some of my players injured all these affected the team, but when we started the second round all hands were on deck and you can see the wonderful performance in the second round.
“In the first round, we got just eight points – we were docked three points – and it looked like we were going to be relegated. But, in the second round we started on a very good note and went five matches unbeaten, and at the end we gathered nineteen points, escaped the drop.
“We’ve learnt our lessons and we are going to start stronger and better next season.”
Regarding the team’s quest in the league next season, the Coach said, “It is definitely going to be a different ball game next season because,.some players will leave and new players will come in like I have told them.
” I want us to start preparation much earlier so to avoid what happened last year in the first round.”
