Taiwo Awoniyi has somewhat of a journeyman’s professional career at the age of 25.

The striker has already represented 8 different clubs in his career (nine if you include Liverpool), but what he is achieving at Nottingham Forest will be written in the folklores of the historic club.

When the Reds cried out for a hero it was their €20 million investment that stepped up and his terrific return to form is proving crucial in saving a season that looked doomed to fail.

The striker has only scored eight goals in 25 league appearances for the Reds, but his goals have been crucial and timely in ensuring that they remain in the Premier League come next season.

Awoniy’s first goal was the only goal against West Ham before going on to achieve the same feat against Liverpool as he scored the only goal to condemn his former side to a defeat.

He also scored the only goal in the closely contested tie against Southampton, bringing his match-winning tally to nine points for his side.

But, he then missed nine games due to a groin injury, he also struggled to find his feet in his first few games before recently hitting a purple patch with back to back braces.

The first was against Southampton to help the Reds to a 4-3 victory before snatching a point against Chelsea with another brace – one of the goals was the leveler.

Just as his manager, Steve Cooper, pointed out, the Nigerian has been revitalized since his return from injury and if he keeps up his goalscoring form he would have successfully led Forest to a deserved stay in the Premier League.
