Wikki Tourist are struggling in the Nigeria premier League, sitting bottom of group B; with just one win and as many draw from 6 games played.
However, Wikki defender Elijah Ogene is optimistic the team will avoid the drop this season.
Ogene declared that survival in the NPFL is the main target now, as focus has shifted from the previous target of the Super 6.
“When we started the league the target was to meet up the Super 6 when we started, but after we lost at home and also lost away, for me now, it’s just to survive and stay in the top flight.
“Let’s forget the Super 6 for now, let’s just survive and stay in the top flight, but it’s still possible, if the Super 6 come we will take it.
“So for now, we’ll just take it one step at a time and try; survive and keep our top flight status.”
The Defender also revealed that the result has not been a true reflection of the ability of the team.
“We believe we will pick up because from the last match we played against Rangers, we did very well. Not that we have not been doing well, even the first match at home against Tornadoes despite the loss we created a lot of Chances and we did very well.
“Unfortunately, we lost that game due to hard luck, but went away against Dakkada, we even scored first, but, after 90 minutes we lost again. All the matches we have lost we have played very well and I hope going away to face Abia warriors we get a result there.”
“In the last game against Enugu Rangers at least we look to have broken the jinx; we won 1-nil. It was a good match and we came out with the victory, we believe with Abia warriors we will still do well and before the end of the first stanza we will leave the bottom of the table. The points are very close and with a win we can leave the bottom.”
