Super Falcons Are Back – Mercy Akide-Udoh

Former Super Falcons player, Mercy Akide-Udoh has shared her excitement with the current form of the team at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Akide-Udoh expressed her excitement on the back of the Super Falcons victory against World Cup co-hosts Australia.

Speaking with Brila FM, the former CAF Women’s Player of the Year suggested that the Nigerian Ladies have taken back their rightful place on the continent.

“I am very happy with them, with what they are doing,” she said. “You know, every time they play in Africa, it looks like we get weaker and weaker.

“But when we get to the World stage, that’s when you differentiate the women from the girls. So now we are differentiating ourselves from the girls.”

“If you look at the countries that are representing Africa, we are one of the best right now, in terms of playing, in terms of the chance to progress from the group stage.”

“I am so excited for the Nigerian team because even in my playing time we did not top the group, first time in history we are on top.”
