Egypt’s senior national team coach, Javier Aguirre is picking positives from his side’s 1-0 loss to Nigeria in their international friendly played in Asaba, as he believes his players learnt useful lessons from the game.
Footballlive.ng can report that Aguirre was satisfied with the run of play, especially with his side’s fight back towards the final whistle, and says it was a good learning curve heading into the Africa Cup of Nations.
The seven-time African champions are set to host the continent for the fifth time in history, ahead of which the Mexican tactician reckons that they need to build a solid squad, and he believes they are on course.
The well-traveled gaffer added that Tuesday’s match against Nigeria gave him the opportunity to try out some new players, who he says lived up to his expectations, and believes they will get better before lining out on home soil at AFCON 2019 in June/July.
Aguirre submitted: “I am satisfied with the team’s performance against a strong team.
“We have benefited a lot from the game as we tried a number of fresh faces amid our strategy to strengthen the team ahead of the AFCON.
“The whole match was a balanced one, except the early few minutes that saw us concede.
“However, our players restored the balance quickly and were a stiff opponent for the hosts.
