Leon Balogun was involved with Brighton and Hove Albion’s U-23 against West Ham in the opening fixture of the Premier League International Cup.
Balogun is yet to taste action with the main team in the PL this season, but was given a rare opportunity to impress with Brighton’s Under 23 side, which they eventually lost 3-1.
Meanwhile Brighton and Hove Albion under-23 coach Simon Rusk was impressed with the Nigerian and two other senior players who were paraded on the night.
“I thought we played some good football and probably should’ve been out of sight in the first half an hour – we have to score the chances we created,” Rusk said.
“They played very well after the break and the truth is that we didn’t, the match got away from us for 25 minutes from that point, so it’s a learning curve.
“The first team staff wanted to utilize the opportunity to give minutes to all three and it’s always great to have the senior boys around the group.” he said
Balogun will hope that his performance will convince main team coach Steve Potters, who has preferred to leave out him out of the league matches played so far.
