Super Eagles call up a privilege, Patience works for Me – Akpeyi

Veteran goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has told FL getting a Super Eagles call up is a privilege and is happy to play his role in the team.

Akpeyi, 35, is not in contention to start Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying match against Liberia on Friday but he admits there is not cause for worry as there are capable deputies at the disposal of the Coaches.
“It’s a great feeling for me I always appreciate the moments when I get called up. It’s a huge privilege not everyone gets to have this opportunity in their careers.
“So far, I’m always grateful any time I am called up I’m grateful to the Coaches and grateful to whoever made it possible for me to be here.
“Kudos to Rohr he actually has young goalkeepers,. But I think he has capable hands, who if given the chance they can do their jobs excellently well.”
Last season, the Nigeria international helped Kaizer Chiefs reach the Final of the CAF Champions League.
He kept 8 clean sheets in the process, the most by any goal tender that campaign.
Akpeyi was rated one of the best that season and he insists hard work and perseverance were crucial to his performance.
“It’s a great feeling because in your career you want to be at the top and you want to try as much as possible to work hard so you’re mentioned at the top of the list and it shows that my effort wasn’t a waste and my patience is working out well for me.”
