Sunshine Stars produced a spirited second forty-five minutes performance to beat Akwa United 1-0 on Sunday in the NPFL at the Akure Township Stadium.

Akwa United who are without a win in the league this season visited the Owena Waves with the hope of grabbing their first three points of the season.

But those hopes were snuffed out by Silas Nwankwo’s solitary goal in the 60th minute.

After a barren first half with lots of wasted chances by the hosts, Nwankwo latched on a rebound from Anthony Omaka’s blocked attempt at goal and Itodo Akor was helpless.

The strike earn Sunshine Stars only their second win of the season, while Akwa United continued their indifferent start to the season, with no win after six games.

Akwa United will make a return to Uyo with the future of John Obuh and Duke Udi hanging by a thread.
