Story behind scuppered Osimhen, Ronaldo swap deal

Victor Osimhen was not nearly close to joining Manchester United in the recent Transfer window.

Reputable sources in Italy and England reported in the latter days of the transfer window of discussions between Napoli and Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes.

Ronaldo wanted to force a move from the Premier League club, but the Man United received no concrete offers for the 37 year-old.

Mendes had also tried to broker a deal that involved a player plus cash swap for his client and Osimhen, which would have seen the Youngster move in the opposite direction.

But, according to Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno, Manchester United pulled out of the deal to sign Victor Osimhen over Napoli’s demands.

The report claims that, ” the Red Devils wanted to split the payment of Ronaldo’s wages throughout the season (50% each), offering no more than €80m for Victor Osimhen who should have moved to Old Trafford.”

Napoli however turned down the proposal, insisting on an extra €20 million for the Nigerian Forward.

It will also be recalled that some days before the Transfer window shut, Napoli Director, Cristiano Giuntoli, confirmed direct contact with Ronaldo’s agent.

“We have a very good rapport with his agent Jorge Mendes, but there was never anything concrete between Napoli and Cristiano Ronaldo.”
