State of Nigerian Football Pitiful – Siasia

Samson Siasia has decried the state of things in Nigerian football space and identifies bad administration as the root cause.

He expressed no optimism in the current system and explained that it would be difficult for the sport to develop in the country.

Siasia, a former player and coach in the Nigerian league, noted that rot had also hit the National leagues, ‘and they don’t exist in the real sense of the word.’

‘There is no proper structure in place and no good academies to even groom good talents for the country.

‘Players’ welfare is poor and there are so many complaints from the players about not being paid fully or being paid at all.’

‘How do you say you have a league when you can’t get these simple things right?’ He queried.

Meanwhile, discussing the state of affairs with Coaches in the Country, Siasia described it as hopeful and urged that indigenous Coaches be given more opportunities.

‘Local coaches are the most loyal,’ Siasia noted. ‘They should be trained with good facilities so as to be able to get the best from them.

‘Look at Walid Regragui, who was trained and had a good working condition and in turn, with his ability and talent, has was able to create history in African football at the world cup.’
