Spotlight on Zuby: The silent assassin

Let’s take you back to last weekend with Caykur Rizespor the hosts to Kayserispor, with midfielder Azubuike “Zuby” Okechukwu running things for his team in a 3-0 victory.

This was the latest highlight for a player making huge waves in the Turkish Super Lig since his loan move to the club from Pyramids FC in January 2019, and he is now crucial for his club two months on.
His rising status has made him one of the best central midfielders in the top tier. He is the “silent assassin in the Turkish Super Lig.
Fast forward to his stint at Yeni Malatyaspor, the hardworking lad was their Pilot and helped them gain promotion at the end of the 2016/17 season.
The 21-year-old is a box to box midfielder in the elk of Sunday Oliseh, with a great goal scoring ability added to explosive pace, and exquisite technique, but can also sit in front of the defence when needed, and mediate the play.
Since his arrival at Rizespor, the club have picked 10 points from a possible 15. He has also scored one goal in the process.
The team have moved up to 11th in the table after romancing with relegation before Zuby’s arrival.
Rizespor knows what a gem they have at the club, and are prepared to hand him a long term contract at the end of the season, but this will not stop the bigger clubs being linked.
For now Zuby leads Rizespor’s charge in finishing the league campaign at mid table, but there is no doubt we are watching a future star in the making.
