Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare has congratulated Nigeria Special Eagles for winning silver at the just concluded 2019 Amputee Football Nations Cup in Angola.
The Special Eagles’ run at the 2019 Amputee Football Nations Cup ended with a silver medal following their 2-0 loss to host country and world champions, Angola.
Nigeria had started the competition with a 1-nil victory over defending champions Liberia before beating Cameroon by two goals to one.
The Special Eagles then played out a barren draw with Tanzania and returned to winning ways in a 1-0 defeat of Sierra Leone .
Following a 2-all draw with the host country Angola, the Special Eagles recorded a 3-2 victory over Tanzania in the semifinal before Angola finally got the better of them in the final as they registered a 2-0 victory.
The Special Eagles had recorded this second place achievement after a nine year absence from the tournament, not forgetting funding problems they have always faced since their inception as a team and a federation.
However, Nigeria is still in search of her first triumph in the competition but in spite, the Minister congratulated the Special Eagles on social media:
“This blessed morning let me celebrate the Nigeria Special Eagles who won silver in the Amputee Africa Nations Cup hosted by Angola. I congratulate them and Nigeria is proud of them. There is indeed ability in disability.”
