Nigerian Midfielder Joe Aribo was in action for Seventy-three minutes as Southampton held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

It was a game of two halves for the Gunners as they started brightly against Southampton and deservingly took the lead after Granit Xhaka smashed in a low drive from Ben White to put Arsenal ahead.

The Gunners looked the sharper of the two and should have got more but Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli were guilty of poor decision making as the Gunners struggled to dissect the Saints.

Southampton deserve credit for coming out strong in the second half and taking the fight to Arsenal.

Arsenal have struggled away to Southampton in recent times having only won one of their last four visits to St. Mary’s Stadium in all competition and were guilty of missing their chances.

Southampton were unforgiven as they punished Arsenal’s poor second half performance and grabbed a deserving equaliser through Stuart Armstrong as the Scottish international finished cooly when released one on one against Aaron Ramsdale.

Aribo was important in the match and gave a very good account of himself, playing as a box to box midfielder and linking up well with his teammates.

The Nigeria was however subbed off in the 73rd minute for Che Adams.
