Taiwo Awoniyi’s streak of nine consecutive games with either a goal or an assist in the Premier League was snapped after Nottingham Forest’s 2-nil loss to Manchester City, on Saturday.

Awoniyi was well on the course to join Egypt’s Liverpool star, Mohamed Salah as the top Africans with the longest consecutive run of goals or assists in the Premier League.

Had the Forest forward managed to achieve that feat, it would then mean he has to go one more game in order to outrightly meet Salah who extended the record by one game, making it eleven straight games.

The big Nigerian forward played 75 minutes and had a good game even as Nottingham Forest struggled to create anything remotely close to a goal scoring chance against the champions.

All of his hard work came in the defensive end of the game, as he recorded 100% aerial duels won and also won 4 out of 8 ground duels he was involved in, coupled with one clearance made and one tackle to his name.

In a rather rare event, Taiwo Awoniyi got a yellow card when he squared up against City’s keeper, Ederson who also got a yellow card for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
