Smouha have not started the new Egypt Premier League season brightly and one win from the last five games had them needing a good result to boost their position on the standings when they welcomed Arab Contractors.

The Blue Wave have two Nigerians in their ranks and one, Sodiq Ougola was handed a starters place in Sunday’s league game.

Ougola, 22, played just over an hour before he was substituted with both teams still deadlocked.

His compatriot, Abubakar Liday was a second half substitute for Smouha, but even his introduction did little to improve his team’s chances.

Smouha yielded possession in the game, but were more dangerous in the final third, registering 10 goal attempts – four more than the visitors.

The hosts had five shots on target, while Arab Contractors registered none in spite of their superior attacking play.

Meanwhile, Arab Contractors also featured a Nigerian in the matchday squad.

John Okoli was handed a starter’s berth, but was replaced in the 88th minute.

In another game, Ghazl El Mahallah beat El Daklyeh to move into a CAF competition spot following the win.

Ghazl El Mahallah won 2-1 and Gabriel Orok got his 6th appearance of the season.

Orok joined the Egyptian side from Enyimba at the end of last season.

For the opponent, Ahmed Rasheed and Chimezie Kelechi started the game while John Christopher came off the bench.
