Kiana Palacios’s 85th goal was the difference in the opening game of the Revelation Cup between Mexico and Nigeria, early hours on Thursday in Leon.
Palacios’s goal broke the deadlock to hand Mexico the first win against their African opponent.
It was also the first meeting between both sides. Nigeria and Mexico are preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup which comes up later in March.
If the game reflected the readiness of the teams, then Randy Waldrum had a bigger task on his hands, as his side lacked coordination and could hardly progress the ball.
The former African Queens could not create clear cut chances and registered oy one shot on goal in the entire game.
According to the head Coach, “Mexico were better in the final 20minutes of the first half and I don’t feel we came out strong in the second half. We created chances but didn’t do enough.
“We had a lot of young players and at this level you have to have the players and the depth. I believe it’s a learning process for us.”
Waldrum has now lost his last six games with the team, conceding 12goals in the process.
Next up for the Super Falcons is a test against Colombia on Saturday.
Another game, another win for Rangers as they cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League on Sunday.
