Former Manchester United academy player, Kenji Gorre has recalled how he ‘burst out crying’ after being told by Sir Alex Ferguson that he was being discharged by the club.

Gorre always wanted to play for Manchester United and so in 2002 when he left rival club, Manchester City, he was well on his way to achieving that dream.

He was accepted at the Club’s academy, where he trained alongside youngsters like Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba.

But his journey was would end abruptly, cut from the youth team, Gorre pursued his football aspirations elsewhere, after 10 years with the Red Devils.

The journey also took him to Swansea City and ADO Den Haag, just two of the five teams he has played for

Many years on, the former academy player described how the Manchester United legend broke the news to him.

“So I knocked on the door and Sir Alex says, ‘Come on son, come in. Kenji, first of all I appreciate you and I appreciate you as a man.

“You’ve had an amazing 10 years here and I can give you a contract right now, but I know that’s not going to do you any good.”

He added, “Then he said, ‘I know that you’re not going to get the game time that you deserve, and I know the quality that you’ve got.

“This is the right time for you to move on and I want to thank you for your 10 years of being here.”

Leaving the office Kenji recounts how he wept bitterly and felt he had let himself and his family down and lost himself as of that time.

“I’ve let my parents down after all their life sacrifices for me,” he said it’s how the news felt.

Kenji Gorre has since gone on to pursue his professional career elsewhere and currently plays for Liga Portugal club, Boavista FC.

The Winger, now 28 year-old, is also a Curacao International and has earned 14 caps since debuting for them in 2019.
