Sierra Leone return to face Nigeria and this time even more confident and will a team that’s younger and determined, so says head Coach John Kester.
Importantly, the Leone Stars a a solid band led and captained by a Veteran, Steven Caulker, whom the Coach credits for the transition ongoing with the team.
The small West African nation will begin their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Nigeria in Abuja and Kester believes the core value of his team is the Spirit to fight.
Speaking at the pre-match conference, Wednesday, the Coach said:
“I think it’s the team spirit, we had a group with Spirit but no expectations or big names but there is togetherness and camaraderie around going out there and fighting for each other, and it has taking us far.
“Also I have brought in an experienced captain that’s leading the ship, very important as well.”
“Leading the ship with the group of Younger players now that we have. What’s important is that we have an experienced Captain that is leading the right way, with the right mentality.
“Coming into Africa, competing in Africa especially when we know how difficult African football can be compared to playing in Europe.
“So, it’s all that we’ve got and I think we’ve got a group of boys who have responded very well and to keep developing and grow – and that’s what we are about growth.”
I predict Nigeria to win tomorrow
