Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has rated his team as fourth in line among favourites to win this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, as he says his side is loaded with many young, inexperienced players.
Although he interjected that they will not go to Egypt 2019 with their tales between their leg,s the Franco-German tactician stressed that it is not logical to rate Nigeria favourites.
Footballlive.ng learnt that, while inferring that any talk about Nigeria as favourites to win AFCON 2019 is a case of mind games from the other coaches, especially Morocco’s Havre Renard, Rohr said his side will only do the best they can.
He, however, acknowledged that they will have to work hard to create a huge impression at the continental soccer showpiece, even if it means going there as the fourth-rate team, behind Morocco, Egypt, Senegal and Tunisia, all of who he believes have edges ahead of Nigeria.
Rohr stressed: “To declare that we will win the AFCON is stupid. We have to work, we have young players. We are No.4.
“Morocco is number 1 in Africa and they are favorites. Egypt with one of the biggest players in the world are favourites as well. They are also playing at home.
“Senegal and Tunisia and second and third. We have a chance though, but please let them speak while we stay humble.”
