Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has lauded erstwhile Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi after the Nigerian international announced his decision to end his national team career following Nigeria’s Third place outing at the 2019 Africa cup of nations.

Rohr speaking in a chat gathered by www.brila.net was full of admiration for Mikel’s leadership style and contribution even when not playing a prominent role on the pitch. He also praised him for his national team achievement with Nigeria.

“We have to thank this great player for his career or for what he has done with Nigeria. Even if he didn’t participate in the qualifiers, we invited him to participate in the 2019 Africa cup of nations and he played his role as captain well even when he wasn’t playing on the pitch very well and it was good to have him in the team.”
