The upcoming match between Rivers United and Young Africans in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup will be an exciting one.

Both teams have a lot at stake, as they are champions in their respective leagues and are competing to advance to the semi-finals of the Confederation Cup.

Rivers United had defeated Young Africans in the competition back in 2022, in the qualifying round.

But, this time around the Nigerian Champions will have to be wary of the threat posed by Fiston Mayele, the DR Congo striker who has been in great form, scoring 18 goals in 16 appearances this season.

Rivers United’s defense will have to find a way to keep him quiet if they are to advance.

On their part, Rivers United’s Ghanaian midfielder Paul Acquah has also been in great form on the continent; scoring 5 goals in 7 appearances. If he manages to replicate the scoring form he showed against Motema Pembe, then Young Africans might stand no chance.

The fact that both teams are ranked closely in the CAF interclub coefficient is an indication that this match, perhaps, will be a closely contested one.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out when Rivers United welcome Young Africans to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on April 23.
