Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma has blamed his side’s last weekend league defeat away to Katsina United on a controversial penalty kick awarded by center referee to the home side.
Tasiu Lawal gave the the Changi Boys the lead from penalty spot before Usman Barau’s strike in the 51st minute doubled their advantage.
River United reduced the deficit in the 68th minute through Cletus Emotan but Eguma believed the center referee goofed awarding a needless penalty kick to the home.
“I still don’t understand why the referee awarded that penalty,” Eguma told the club media.
“No Katsina United player appealed for it. I didn’t see any infringement but the referee awarded it. We just have to pick ourselves up from it and focus on our next game.”
Rivers United seventh on the log of NPFL Group A with 19 points from 14 games.
They welcome Sunshine Stars to the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.
