Sevilla Femenino’s six-game unbeaten run in the Liga F came to an end, Friday, after they fell 2-0 to Real Madrid Femenino at the Estadio Jesús Navas.

A goal in each half from Olga Carmona (29′) and Athenea del Castillo (83′) condemned Sevilla to their first defeat since May – another home defeat.

Real Madrid themselves were unbeaten heading into the game – a 5-game winning streak.

On the day, the visitors controlled the game; dominated possession and created two times the number of goalscoring opportunities Sevilla managed.

Cristian Toro stuck with his usual suspects, including Nigerian winger Toni Payne.

Payne started the game and played until the 90th minute when she was substituted; the game already lost.

Reacting to the outcome of the Match Toro described his team’s performance in the second half as encouraging, but the second goal damped the spirits.

“I think that in the first half it was more difficult for us to be together, jump and close the duels, but they came once and scored us, it was difficult for us to finish. In the second half we took a step forward to look for the tie and the we had, the penalty is that 0-2 after a corner in our favour, but we are left with the fact that we compete and look for our options.”

He also praised Payne’s efforts in the game:

“The goal was to have people to come out on the counterattack and we generated them inside and then adjusted with Toni on the wing. It’s difficult when many players win individual duels and you have to work hard collectively, but this continues and there are two weeks to go. of league.”

Next up for Sevillistas is a home game against League Champions, FC Barcelona Femeni – who are unbeaten so far this season.

“Against Barcelona it will be an intense match, they put you in situations with many duels and we have to be 100%. We are talking about the league champion five days before and the finalist of Champions, but we play at home and we are also going to try to compete.”
