The Flying Eagles of Nigeria began their quest to lift the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup with 4-0 thrashing of Qatar in their opening match of Group D at the Tychy Stadium on Friday.
Former Enyimba international left back Ikouwem Udoh Utin who is captain of the team was the star of the show as he set up two goals in the opening 30 minutes to lead the two time runners-up to a comprehensive victory.
The Paul Aigbogun led boys opened the scoring after twelve minutes through Maxwell Effiom , before adding the second in the 24th minutes courtesy of Enyimba striker Okechukwu Offia.
However, after the two half chances that fell to the Qatari side in the opening ten minutes, they failed to make any serious attempt to get into the game before the first half ended.
Flying started the second half exactly as they ended the first , they dominated the opening and created a lot of deadly situations for the Qatari side who are just making their fourth appearance in the tournament.
Tom Dele Bashiru put the game beyond the Asians eight minutes after an hour mark, before Aliu Salawudeen completed the rout for Paul Aigbogun’s side with fifteen minutes left on the clock.
The Flying Eagles will face USA in their second Group D game on the 27th of May.
