10-man Viktoria Plzen succumbed to the superior quality of Inter Milan in their second group game of the UEFA Champions League, but their Nigerian forward, Fortune Bassey showed promise coming off the bench.
Bassey was introduced in the 71st minute of the encounter at the Doosan Arena, and twice he went close to scoring – his side’s only shot on target in the game.
One of his effort was beaten away by Inter’s Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana, from a flicked header.
It was the Nigerian’s second appearance in the competition, he also came off the bench in Plzen’s game day trip to Camp Nou.
He had very little impact against Barcelona as the Catalans ran rout in a 5-1 win.
Plzen were denied any goal yesterday though, Onana ensuring the Nerazzurri kept a clean sheet and pick their first win of the campaign after the 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on match day 1.
On Tuesday night, goals from Edin Dzeko (20′) and Denzel Dumfries (70′) on either side of Pavel Bucha’s red card gave the Italian side victory.
