Players Scorecard: Ndidi scores, Balogun, Iheanacho, Success, Awaziem with zero action on Saturday.

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was in action for Leicester City in the English Premier League on Saturday in his team’s 2 – 1 home loss to Southampton. The Nigerian International scored Leicester’s only goal in the match in the 58th minute of the encounter.

 

Ndidi has made a total of 22 appearances for the Foxes this season scoring twice. Meanwhile his compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho was an unused substitute in the encounter as the coach preferred the services of England international Jamie Vardy.

 

Nigerian international Leon Balogun was an unused substitute in Brighton and Hove Albion’s one nil home loss to table toppers Liverpool in the EPL. Newly crowned African footballer of the year Mohammed Salah continued his goal scoring form as he converted the only goal for the Reds in the 50thminute of the encounter.

 

Balogun has only been able to manage eight appearances for the Seagulls this season scoring once in the club’s 3 – 1 win over Crystal Palace.

 

Nigerian forward Isaac Success was left on the bench in Watford’s dramatic win over Crystal Palace in the EPL on Saturday. Success has scored just one goal for the Hornets this season in the 21 appearances. The former Golden Eaglets star has only been able to complete three matches in the league so far.

 

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi featured for Arsenal in the team’s one nil away loss to fellow Londoners West Ham in the EPL on Saturday. Iwobi has appeared 19 times for the Gunners this season and has been one of Unai Emery’s finest players.

 

Former Nigerian international Victor Moses was once again unlisted for Chelsea in the team’s 2 – 1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday. Moses has only featured twice for the London Blues this season with a total of 26 minutes. Moses has been out of favor with Italian boss Maurizio Sarri having been instrumental for Chelsea under Antonio Conte.

 

Nigerian international Oghenekaro Etebo was a 46th minute substitute in Stoke City’s 3 – 1 away loss to Brentford FC in an English Championship match on Saturday. The former Las Pamas utility player replaced Saido Berahino as they lost their eight game of the season.

 

Stoke city is currently placed 14th on the Championship log with hopes of returning to the big league almost unachievable.

 

Three players of Nigerian decent were listed in the 18-man squad that featured for Queens Park Rangers in their 1 – 0 loss to Sheffield United in the Championship on Saturday.

 

Midfielder Eberechi Eze played all 90 minutes of the encounter.  Bright Osayi-Samuel was a second half substitute for Pawel Wszolek in the 62ndminute while Aramide Oteh was an unused substitute.

 

In Spain, Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo provided another superb performance for Leganes as they got a narrow one nil win over SC Huesca in the La Liga Santander on Saturday.

 

Nigerian wonder kid Samuel Chukwueze made a start for Villarreal in the Spanish La Liga and was impressive in the encounter but was unable to help his team get the needed three points as they lost at home to high flying Getafe 2 – 1 in a dramatic fashion.

 

Chukwueze who got a starting berth was substituted for Cameroonian Karl Toko Ekambi in the 57th minute. The Cameroonian threw away a golden chance for the Yellow Submarines to salvage a point when his 90th minute penalty flew past the bar.

 

In France, Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu was in action as Bordeaux lost 1 – 0 to 6th placed Nice in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday. Kalu received a yellow card for a bookable offence in the 26th minute of the match.

 

Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem was not listed in FC Porto’s goalless draw against Sporting Lisbon on Saturday. Awaziem has been a fringe player for the Portuguese giants since returning from a successful loan deal at Ligue 1 outfit Nantes.
