Lesotho almost caused a major upset in African football on Thursday when they shot ahead in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier against Nigeria, in Uyo.

While Lesotho are little known for their footballing prowess, Leslie Notsi’s side showed character while the Nigerian team struggled in spite of their experience and quality.

Very few would have expected a 1-1 result at the end of 90 minutes in Uyo, but nothing is beyond the imagination these days in African football.

However, it goes without saying that some of the leaders in the Super Eagles didn’t step up and now the pressure is on to get a result on Sunday against Zimbabwe on the road.
