Nigeria’s penalty hero Detan Ogundare has told footballlive.ng that the team prepared for penalties before the semi-final game against Mali in the Men’s football event at the African Games on Tuesday.
After a goalless 90 minutes, the Flying Eagles triumphed 5-4 on penalties to progress to the final of the event, an outcome that excites Ogundare, whose crucial saves stopped Mali.
“I’m so excited being the hero of the game; you know it’s something we have been working for, the penalty is something that we have worked so well on in training and we thank God that it reflected in the main match.
“With God on our side and the prayer of Nigerians it’s going to work for our favour and we will also correct our lapses against Mali before the final game.”
