Victor Osimhen has paid tribute to legendary Nigerian Forward, Rashidi Yekini, after he surpassed the latter to become the fastest player to reach 15 goals for the Super Eagles.
Osimhen scored four times against Sao Tome & Principe in Monday’s AFCON qualifier to take his International goal tally up to 15.
The young forward also achieved the feat with 10 games fewer than Yekini, who reached 15 goals in 32 games for Nigeria.
However, the late Forward remains Nigeria’s all-time top scorer and Osimhen stated his goal is to continue helping the team rather than looking to outdo the “best ever”.
“For me, even if I surpass the great Rashidi Yekini I believe that he is the best Striker the Super Eagles has ever had and he will continue to be the best ever no matter who surpasses his goal-record,” the 23 year-old said in the post-match presser.
“I just want to continue get the goals for the team, do well and win games for the team and help with all the other objectives we set for the team.”
