Victor Osimhen is now a major injury worry for Napoli and Nigeria following the test results from the discomfort the forward complained about in the recent international game against Saudi Arabia.

Osimhen was substituted in the second half of Nigeria’s friendly match against Saudi Arabia, last week, and the initial fears that the Forward picked up a hamstring injury have been confirmed to be even worse.

Victor Osimhen wears a disappointing look after he picked up an injury during the friendly match between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.

In an official statement on its website, on Monday, Napoli revealed the 24 year-old suffered a “medium-grade lesion of the biceps femoris of the right thigh”, after further tests following the initial report from the Super Eagles’ medical team.

The statement reads:

“After the injury suffered in the national team, Victor Osimhen was examined today and underwent further tests which highlighted a medium-grade lesion of the biceps femoris of the right thigh.
The striker has started treatment at the SSCN Konami Training Center.”

It is now believed that the Nigeria International will miss crucial UEFA Champions League matches for Napoli.

The injury and rehabilitation period could see him sidelined for at least six weeks, and it means he will also miss Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

However, he is expected to return just in time for Nigeria’s preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off in January.

The Forward has had a decent start to new the season, and though just early days, he has racked up 6 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions for Napoli.

His absence could further plunge the Serie A defending champions into further crisis, following a slow start to their title defense season.
